code of conduct for volunteers

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards and expectations for volunteers to ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all. By adhering to this Code of Conduct, volunteers help create a safe and nurturing environment for all.

1.     Core Principles

·       Respect and Dignity: All recipients will be treated with respect and dignity, recognizing their inherent worth and value.

·       Confidentiality: Information about recipients will be kept confidential and shared only with authorised personnel as necessary for the provision of services.

·       Non-Discrimination: Services will be provided without discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other characteristics.

·       Safety: Always prioritise the physical and emotional safety of all participants.

·       Integrity: Act with honesty, transparency, and integrity in all interactions.

 

2.     Guidelines for Interactions

2.1.  Positive Behaviour: Use positive language and behaviour, avoiding any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying.

2.2.  Appropriate Boundaries: Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries. Avoid any actions that could be misinterpreted as inappropriate or harmful.

2.3.  Supervision: Ensure participants are always supervised during activities. Do not leave vulnerable individuals unattended.

2.4.  Communication: Communicate in a manner that is age-appropriate and respectful. Listen to concerns and respond appropriately.

2.5.  Commitment to Inclusion:  Promote an inclusive environment that welcomes and respects individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities, aware of and sensitive to cultural differences and practices.

2.6.  For children, also adhere strictly to all safety protocols to safeguard children from potential harm, including refraining from photography.

2.7.  For the elderly, also exercise patience and understanding and aid as needed, ensuring their comfort and dignity.

2.8.  For individuals with disabilities, encourage independence and respect their autonomy.

 

3.      Reporting and Accountability

Volunteers are expected to report any incidents, concerns, or suspicions of abuse or neglect to the Lead Coordinators immediately. Volunteers are accountable for their actions and must always adhere to this Code of Conduct. Any breaches of this code will be addressed promptly dealt with.

  

4.     Training and Support

Volunteers are expected to participate in required training sessions to understand Have Hope’s policies, procedures, and best practices for working with diverse populations.  Seek support and guidance when needed.

 

5.      Personal Conduct

Volunteers are expected to always conduct themselves professionally and ethically, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

The use of alcohol, drugs, or any substances that may impair judgment, such as prescription medications, is strictly prohibited immediately before and during volunteer service.
